Pets of Beach Haven: Q – Golden Good Boy

Q is a handsome fellow, a dazzling head turn for sure. No doubt you’ve seen his fluffy tail swing past your front door once or twice. And if you ever come too close to him, be warned: he will want to be your new best friend.

Q is a 7 year old Golden Retriever named after Q, the all knowing, omnipotent character on Star Trek. He lives up to his name and in his younger days would occasionally get into mischief while always making you laugh. Now Q has settled down and enjoys trips to the beach, long walks, and even longer naps. Watch out because if there is water around he won’t miss the opportunity to take a dip.

Q’s story is very special. It starts off very ordinary. We packed up the family and drove 3 hours to pick him up when he was just 9 weeks old. As soon as we got out of our car we saw our little fluff ball standing on the front porch as if he was looking out and pondering his future. Even though we were happy to get our new puppy, we heard unsettling yapping and barking of many dogs coming from cages in the backyard. We soon realized we had purchased him form a backyard puppy mill breeder. We met his parents who were so happy to be out of their cages even just for a few minutes. They were beautiful but very skinny. We decided to still make this little puppy a part of our family because we knew we couldn’t leave him.

Laurel decided she wanted to rescue Q’s parents. She befriended the breeder and convinced her to give us both of Q’s parents. Surprisingly she agreed, but not before she made his mother have another litter just 6 months later. When the time was right we picked up his parents and took them to one of the best Golden Retriever rescues in Florida. As much as we wanted to keep them, we knew our house at the time wasn’t a good fit for three rambunctious Goldens. The dogs were taken to the vet to be fixed and brought back to health. Both dogs were adopted by loving families of their own and now live in posh pool homes in Boca Raton. They will never miss a meal or be in a backyard cage again.

Q’s story is a rescue story even though he is not a rescue himself. We are happy we were able to save his parents and give them loving homes they deserve.

So just like his namesake, Q has taught us to be better humans. We are so happy he is part of our family and he continues to bring us joy each day.
